The gear shift and gearbox in the Mk2 Renault Clio RS is not one of its strong points. Frustrated with the lack of quality aftermarket shifter offerings, we decided to design our own solution.
The goal was simple - increase the precision of the shift. This was to reduce the chance of potentially expensive and time-sapping miss-shifts in a racing scenario. We also wanted to try and improve the feel and experience of shifting in the car.
We believe we have achieved these goals by pairing a 'self-centering' style shifter with our custom fabricated base. Our shifter has the following features and benefits:
- A self-centering spring which reduces the free play and helps to engage gears precisely
- A custom linkage which eliminates the play found in the factory linkage (see note below re. pre-order items)
- A reverse lockout
- A longer shifter handle to bring the grearknob closer to the wheel (height above tunnel is approximately 470mm)
- A throw similar to factory so as not to rush the synchromesh gearbox
- Reverse and 5th gear can be precisely locked using the included limit screws
- Quieter than other aftermarket offerings as the rattle in the shifter is eliminated
Included in the kit is:
- A choice of a black anodised or carbon self-centering shifter made by Coolerworx
- Our custom fabricated base, powder coated satin black, with added dust boot
- Our custom linkage kit. NOTE - the linkage is under development. A discounted version is available but you will need to use an existing linkage (contact us for more details)
We recommend that when fitting this kit you ensure your engine and gearbox mounts are checked to ensure minimal movement in the engine/gearbox. Please note that due to the size, the kit will also require removal (or trimming) of the factory plastics if they are present.
